BBB Spectrum Service

MIXI, Inc.

Optimizing Long-Distance Data Center Connectivity with Spectrum Service.

MIXI, Inc. (hereafter referred to as MIXI) has selected BBB Spectrum service utilizing an all-photonics network (APN)*1 as a connectivity solution for long-distance data centers. This initiative aims to strengthen the company’s next-generation network infrastructure. By doing so, MIXI not only achieves efficient transmission of extremely large amounts of data but also establishes a cost-effective infrastructure for inter-data-center connectivity.

Balancing Cost Efficiency and Scalability

Operating large-scale data centers within Tokyo presents significant challenges due to space, power and cost constraints, making the use of data centers outside of Tokyo a practical alternative. However, traditional privately leased lines or dark fiber-based services often entail high costs proportional to distance and bandwidth, posing challenges to efficient operations.

To address this issue, MIXI has decided to make use of Spectrum service for the first time. With BBB Spectrum, MIXI can leverage its own optical transmission equipment (transponders) to achieve transmission of extremely large amounts of data while significantly reducing monthly operational costs.

Smooth Implementation and Stable Network Operation

Long-distance data transmission from Tokyo to other cities typically requires the construction and operation of Intermediate Light Amplification (ILA) facilities. By utilizing BBB Spectrum, MIXI has been able to outsource these operations, simplifying the implementation process.

Additionally, utilizing the on-net BBB Spectrum network, the implementation can be completed in as little as one month, enabling swift service activation. This quick deployment is another major benefit of adopting this service.

And 24 hours and 365 days operation and maintenance are provided to ensure the stable network service.

For MIXI, Spectrum service was provided between the on-net data centers such that fully redundant network design can be realized. There are also various ways to set up extensions to off-net data centers using fiber access options
